Here are the most frequently asked questions that we are asked at the Bill Douglas Museum.

I can’t find the information I am looking for on EVE. Can you help?

If you are having trouble using EVE please see the hints and tips guide on the web site or the University of Exeter Library’s essentials guide. If you are still unable to find what you are looking for (for example, missing journal issues), it may be because it is simply not held in the collection. As with all museums, we cannot be comprehensive in all collecting areas.

Why can’t I find an image for the item I’m looking at?

EVE is the online catalogue for the Bill Douglas Centre. There are over 60,000 items in the collection and at present only a small percentage representing our collection strengths have been digitised.  If the message ‘no images currently available for this object’ appears, then unfortunately you will not be able to access an image for this item.

I can see an external image but how do I view the whole object?

The images on EVE are intended to illustrate the range of items contained in the collection and to aid the exhibitions function of the site. To view the full text of books and other print material, you may need to visit the Centre in person or seek alternatives elsewhere.

May I print selected images or text excerpts from the Centre’s Web site for a school or college assignment?

You may use images and text from the site in your school or college assignment as long as they remain unaltered and are not used for publication (including on the Internet). You should cite the source as you would any printed work; the citation should include the URL "http://www.billdouglas.org/eve". All other forms of publication are expressly prohibited without prior permission from the Bill Douglas Centre and/or other copyright holders.

How can I obtain a copy of this item?

The majority of material held by the Bill Douglas Centre is 20th century and therefore in copyright. Consequently, we cannot supply copies of this type of material. Requests for copies of out of copyright items will be dealt with on an individual basis. Please contact the Curator at curator@billdouglas.org

Where can I buy a copy of this film?

The Bill Douglas Centre does not collect film, video or DVD. If you are hoping to purchase a copy of a film, then please visit an online retailer such as Amazon. More unusual titles can often be found on the British Film Institute’s website. This site also contains a film links gateway with useful information about deleted films and videos.

How do I find out more about a particular film, star or subject?

Unfortunately, due to the volume of enquiries the Centre receives, we cannot respond to general questions about film or film trivia. The Internet Movie Database is a good place to start if you are looking for this kind of information. For additional sources please visit the links page on the main Bill Douglas Centre website.

Can you carry out research on my behalf?

We are happy to assist enquirers with specific requests but in no circumstances can we carry out in-depth research on your behalf. There are various useful research resources available on the Bill Douglas Centre website.
